XMIT button not working?

jeff stai-2
hi - I'm used to using this button to nudge the amp into auto tune/band
change by toggling it on and off briefly. I am in data/FSK mode. It works
fine on the older K3 but for some reason on the K3S I am getting an "N/A"
on the display and nothing happens. Why would I be getting N/A?

Thanks and 73 jeff wk6i

Re: XMIT button not working?

Hi,

Nobody has responded to this so I'll hop in with what I know.

Apparently the XMIT button was disabled for all data modes in firmware version 5.47 and all later versions. This has nothing to do with K3/K3S; both are affected.

I'm on the latest K3 firmware (5.52?) and the XMIT button continues to work as it always has in all modes, including RTTY.

I can't think of what would cause it not to work and display 'N/A'.  I doubt it is unique to the K3s.

In reply to this post by ab2tc
XMIT was disabled only for FSK-D and PSK-D data submodes. It can still be used in DATA-A and AFSK-A submodes.

There are three ways to transmit in FSK-D and PSK-D modes:

1.  Keyer paddle

2.  Message play (M1-M4 tap) or message repeat (M1-M4 hold)

3.  Text packet from a host computer or macro (see KeYing command, KY<TEXT>)

XMIT was disable for FSK-D and PSK-D as part of a much larger firmware makeover having to do with T/R, the USB port, and safe exit from transmit.

If you need to test transmit while in these or any other modes, you can do a TUNE.

What Joe said :)

I suppose you could put "TX;" into a switch macro, too, restoring the ability to do this via a front-panel switch.

Re: XMIT button not working?

n6ee
In reply to this post by Ed W0YK
This change which disables XMIT in FSK D mode, which Wayne described as
intentional, has apparently broken the ability to assert PTT via CAT
commands.  I need this in order to implement a new feature in Writelog which
requires PTT via CAT in the FSK D mode.

I have proven on ten different Remote Ham Radio stations that the new FSK D
mode feature in Writelog works just fine with older K3 firmware but does not
work on three RHR stations which have had their firmware upgraded to 5.5 or
later.

How far back do we need to go with restoring the older firmware that worked?
And, how do you restore to older firmware on the K3? Is their an archive
somewhere of old firmware releases and will they load ok with the K3
Utility?

Thanks and 73,
Ron N6EE

Re: XMIT button not working?

Mark E. Musick
Hi Ron.
You load an older firmware version as you would a new version.
Bring up the K3 utility, point it at the firmware version you want and tell
it to send the firmware to the K3.
I have many of the older firmware versions. Prior to 5.50 I have 5.38, 5.29,
5.26.
I can e-mail you which ever one you want.
I do have further back than 5.26 if you find it too has the PTT change. Just
let me know.

73,
Mark, WB9CIF

In reply to this post by n6ee
Ron,

XMIT was always required in FSK-D and PSK-D modes. These are “VOX-only” modes, like hit-the-key CW, for historical reasons.

Several PTT assertion cases were improved long ago, and this code has been in use by thousands of of K3/K3S users. Please contact me directly to describe the exact sequence of operations you’re trying to use so I can try to duplication the problem.

tnx
Wayne
